mysterious new bar on desktop

A blue 2" wide vertical bar has appeared on the left side
of my Desktop--it is headed "folder tasks", and
has "other places" and "details", with pulldown menus for
each. Is this an Office thingy-----how do I get rid of it?

Hi,

This generally happens after modifying Folder Options. In the meantime:

Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32

or run:

Remove Common Tasks from the Desktop (Line 15)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
