My stupid husband

Sarah

My husband downloaded some stupid things that gave us a
virus. I was trying to fortify everythin- tried to
delete Windows Messenger. Ended up deleted access to
Windows Accessories (calculator, etc) and Games (Spider
Solitaire, etc). How do I get access to those things
again? I went to "add/remove windows components" and see
them still there, but I can't get them back on my
system. Please help me. We are computer idiots in this
house and this is driving me nuts.
thx

The first thing you must learn is to never go on the internet without a functioning and up to date virus program. For any missing or corrupt OS files simply put your XP CD or Recovery CD in the drive and then close the auto play window that comes up. Then click start\run and type in sfc /scannow Be sure to put the space in after sfc and before the /. This will do a System File Check and replace any missing or corrupt files. Personally you aren't missing anything by not having the MS games installed. There are far superior and free programs available in dozens of sites on the net. Good luck. {:~)

If you don't deny him the sexual favors he needs from you he
would not be downloading "stupid things."
Assuming you used the delete command to remove parts of
Windows, you may be well served to do a repair install of
Windows.

See a marriage counselor and a computer geek.

Sarah,

In Add/Remove, Windows Components, uninstall the programs in question, then reinstall them.

Prìck! That is not only a subservient suggestion for a woman, but also is
very sexist. I hope you apply that same thinking to yourself when your
little male friends need new clothes!

I'm sure of you spent more *quality* time communicating/being with your
mate, she (or he) wouldn't be screwing other lovers; see a relationship
counselor.

Also, if I recall correctly, you are a Bushite, so god bless America!

Insert foot in mouth.

Oops, too late! You already have! LOL!

In the interests of equality, the line should read.. "My stupid husband
downloaded some things that gave us a
virus, and his stupid wife deleted parts of Windows in an attempt to rectify
the problems.. "

I do believe that the 'she who must be obeyed' was in fact the wife of
'Rumpole of the Bailey' (Leo Mc Kern in real life).. he also played the
chief 'nut' in the Beatles movie 'Help'.. his catchphrase in that one was
'Come to the window'..

Mike's not heard of Rumsfield of the Old Baily has he.

You made me laugh out loud! Really, he can look at
whatever he wants to on the computer. But I knew we were
in trouble this week when I tried to explain the
difference between safe & unsafe websites, and he rolled
his eyes and said "Oh Sarah, I don't even know
what 'download' means". I know a hair more than he does
about this contraption, just enough to support my home-
based business. Thanks to all for your advise.. But
thankfully, no marriage counseling necessary! ;)

Its good to know that we are not alone.. to all 'stupid' husbands out
there.. stand your ground.. next time 'she who must be obeyed' fills the
vacuum bag to the point where the motor almost burns out, fix it by throwing
out important parts like the rotating brush.. claim 'diminished
responsibility' and then get asylum at the local bar on the basis that you
are a 'domestic appliance' idiot..

Rumpole of the Bailey. He really is a tragic case of being 'henpecked'!!

Of course then she'll just get you to buy a new one. You'll pay some
way no matter what, so you might as well just fix it with a knowing
smile.

Hey now... That's not quite fair. We got the computer
for my home-based business, to bring in a little extra
money.. Not to download beheading videos from foriegn
websites or to download "other" stuff (I won't go into
details but you silly husbands know what I am talking
about.) The rub is that I explained in detail what would
be safe & what would be risky. He just opted to ignore
all that "technical talk".. It should be a lesson that
sometimes wives have something useful to share.. Even if
it is just 'sometimes'... ;)
