My Scanner thinks it's locked

My Visioneer 4800 USB scanner keeps giving an error
message "Please verify you have unlocked the scanner"
The Visioneer 4800 USB scanner DOES NOT HAVE A LOCK
according to visioneer.
Can anybody help me PLEASE?

I've not seen a scanner that does not have a shipping lock somewhere on
the bottom. Usually a recessed plastic slider.
