MY OE won't let me have my attachments!

Antoinette

Why does my OE just "DECIDE FOR ME" that all my attachments are "unsafe"
and wants to protect me from myself? I don't WANT my attachments being
rendered useless by OE WHAT CAN I DO!!!????
My darn Outlook Express has for some dumb reason decided "for my own
benefit even though I did NOT ask it to" to "remove access to the following
unsafe attachments in your mail"
To my OE it is ANY and EVERY attachment!
Do you know how to STOP it from doing this?
I usually use Incredimail for my email but for my Newsgroups I have to use
Outlook Express.

Thank you,
Antoinette

Hi

Try this:

With OE open, go to Tools>Options>Security and uncheck 'Do not allow
attachments to be saved...'. If you do uncheck this option, please virus
check all attachments before opening them.

1.Go into options-->security to uncheck the one about viruses.
2.Try Thunderbird instead of OE...............................

When OE is upgraded through Windows update to the version with this unsafe
attachment feature (I forget exactly when it was introduced), it is enabled
it by default with no notice to the user. I have had urgent calls from
furious business clients who lost incoming files because this feature was
enabled without their knowledge or consent, and they had no idea why. It's
a good option to add to OE for users who never receive files in the "unsafe"
categories, but to enable it automatically with no notice to the user was
unbelievably stupid and arrogant.

Antoinette,

Posted to newsgroup and emailed directly to the poster of the message that this is a reply to.

See if this helps.

Load up Outlook Express and click on Tools/Options/Security and see if you've got a tick against "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

If you have then uncheck this box and you should get access to all attachments.

Before you do this,of course, make sure that you have installed, and keep up-to-date,a good virus checker program.

You might also find this useful.

Load up Outlook Express and remove,if it's there, the tick against 'When Outlook Express starts, go directly to my Inbox' .

Click on INBOX then right-click an empty bit of the TOOLBAR and click on CUSTOMIZE and find the icon called PREVIEW and double-click it to add it to the TOOLBAR.

When you've done this you can click on the PREVIEW icon to turn on or turn off the PREVIEW PANE.

You can then turn it off, before you go on-line,and let all your emails download then delete any that look 'suspicious' - without them being opened when you click on their headers to highlight them before deleting them - then turn it back on to view the rest of them.

If you're still not sure about any of the 'safe' ones then - with the Preview Pane still turned off - you can right-click the header and then click PROPERTIES/DETAILS/MESSAGE SOURCE and see what the email contains then decide to either delete it or open it.

Outlook Express' default security settings are simply trying to
protect the recipient. OE has no way of telling whether an attachment
actually contains a virus or not, so it temporarily blocks any of
those file types that could potentially contain a virus. In Outlook
Express, Tools > Options > Security, uncheck the "Do not allow
attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"
option, assuming he trusts the source, of course. The wiser course of
action, however,
would be to modify your list of unsafe files, as outlined in the KB
articles below:
