All my JPG images have the "uknown" icon instead of the orange one showing
the sailboat and sunset (windows xp default icon for jpg)
How do I fix this?

Hi,

Control Panel?Folder Options/File types tab, scroll down to .jpg and click
it, then click "advanced". Use the "change icon" button, you will find the
default icon in the shimgvw.dll file.

I wish it was so easy...
BUT

there is no advanced button on jpg.
I get only CHANGE which lets me change the program (it is already on the
windows picture and fax viewer as it should be)
and RESTORE

when I press change it lets me select another program to open it with so I
choose the windows picture and fax viewer again.

when I press restore goes to Acdsee.... and then I do have CHANGE AND
ADVANCED
the advances lets me change the icon but the actions are for acdsee not
windows picture and fax viewer.

so its not working

Your jpg files have been hijacked by acdc. Right click on a jpg and choose Open with, then click "Choose program' even if it appears in the list, pick windows fax & picture and check Always use this program to open these files. You might want to uninstall ACDC.

no it was not acdsee.... that is for sure because the icons were ok for a
long time after I installed acdsee and I was carfull what i was doing when I
installed acdsee.
It was some sort of registry problem that I solved with this application
