my emails don't appear into my in box

I always have to click on 'send/receive' before my emails arrive into my
inbox, at the bottom it tells me how many I am receiving, but just lately it
may say receiving 1 of 17 etc and counts up but nothing ever appears in my in
box, i have checked junk mail etc. Can anyone tell me where they go? and why
do I always have to click on send/receive before my mails actually get into
my in box

What version of Outlook do you have? What sort of mail account(s)? To
avoid having to click send/receive, set up an automatic send/receive in the
send/receive settings menu item (for Outlook 2002 or 2003, at least). To
find the mail, see if you can use the Find feature to search all your
folders for some words that are likely to appear in mail (like "and" or
"the").

You didn't answer my questions: what version of Outlook do you have, and
what sort of mail account(s)?
