My computer sound volume is low

I recently bought a Dell Dimension and decided to clean install Windows XP on
it. After re-installing the sound card drive, the sounds were working fine
with one problem: the volume was very low, no matter how much I increased
the volume in the sound settings. After talking to the Dell people, they
could not help me. They took me though several processes to check my
hardware and software, and told me that both seemed to be working. I
installed and re-installed the driver, I re-installed windows, I took my
speakers and connected them to another computer: sound was blasting. What
can I do? Do you think the problem is in my sound card??

Double-click the "Volume" icon i the System Tray and check that "Volume
Control", "Wave" and "SW Synth" are all turned up and don't have a tick in
the "Mute" box....

I did that off course!

I can hear sounds (so obviously mute is not checked), but they are low
volume. As I said before, volume is on max in all settings, but still,
volume is very low. Any help? The dell people could not help me, so I may
return the computer is I cannot do much about it.

Thanks
