"My Computer" Slow

J

James DeMoss

When I right click the "My Computer" Icon on my desktop
to open it, it trys to open but for a couple of minutes
it just has the flashlight waiving back and forth....
apparently just searching endlessly (so it seems) I have
all the latest OS updates, checked for spy-ware and
viruses regularly and cannot seen to find the problem.
This has not always done this but I just can't remember
when it all started. I can type the drive letter in the
address bar while it is searching and that drive and it's
contents is brought up immediately.

Thanks for any advice in advance...

When you click Start and then click My Computer, or when you double-click My
Computer on your Windows desktop, Windows may search (a flashlight may
appear) for a long time (for example, 5 minutes) before files appear.

Disable the Windows Image Acquisition service.

If this does not help, uninstall 821557 hotfix

WOW!!!! That was it. Thank you so much. I really do not
have problems with XP (XP ROCKS), but this one had me
stumped. God bless you and maybe someday I can return the
favor

Hey James,

Glad to hear you got it fixed. What actually fixed it. Was it disabling the
wiindows Image Aquisition Service or removing 821557?

It was fixed by disabling the Windows Acquisition
Service. I appreciate your responses as well. This
problem has been with this setup since I installed XP. I
researched everywhere, even lurked here for some time
before asking here.

Thanks again and take care...
