"My Computer" screen keeps popping up in Windows XP

I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP last year.
Everything worked fine until last night when the "My
Computer" screen started popping up randomly inside Word
2000. Extremely annoying having to stop every 2-3 words to
close the screen. Use Norton Symantec which is updated
daily. No set keystroke combo seems to be causing
problem; no macro has mysteriously appeared; problem
occurs in different documents. Removed MS Office 2000
completely and reinstalled, without success, so it looks
like the problem lies with Windows XP. Has anybody got
any idea as to what might be causing this and how I might
fix it?
