Music Tasks not working

S

S Bart

When I open a folder containing MP3 files the music tasks appear as they
should on the right hand side. However when I click on play all files
nothing happens. It use to work in that all the MP3's would be loaded into
Media player but now nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Simon

Thanks for the quick response, unfortunately I've search were you directed
me but can't find a solution to my problem. Windows media player just
doesn't want to know. The egg timer appears briefly as if something is about
to happen but then nothing. No error message, no playing MP3 file. It's not
that important that I get it fixed but it's bloody annoying and it makes
playing all the files in a folder that much more difficult.

I'll be grateful for any more suggestions.

Thanks

this is a VERY common problem! here's a "solution" I found via searching
google groups. It involves editing the registry, so ONLY TRY THIS IF YOU
ARE CONFIDENT IN YOUR ABILITIES!!!!

------- cut -----

add the following RG_SZ string back into each music file type extension
that
is not working and reboot your system. Find the following registry key and
add the appropriate audio file extension.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<music type extension>

music type extensions

- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3

- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wma

- HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav

Add the string value of "PerceivedType"="audio" for that music type

extension.

To do so, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click the value containing the extension of the file
type

that is not working under the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\
for

example: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wma

4. With the extension highlighted, click the Edit menu, point to New, then
click

String Value

5. For the name of the new value, type "PerceivedType" (without the
quotation

marks), and then press ENTER.

6. Double click the PerceivedType string value and type "audio" (without
the

quotation marks), for the Value data and then click OK.

7. Repeat these steps for each file type that is not working

8. Close Registry Editor

9. Restart the computer by clicking Start, point to a clickTurn Off
Computer,

then click Restart

Those string values already exist in the registry for mp3 files which is the
only file I use "play all" for. Thanks for your suggestion but I don't think
that's my problem.
