Hi everyone,

I installed an old CD ROM onto a computer without a cd device.

It all works fine and allowed me to install a new operating system.

After plugging in some speakers to listen to a CD the music sounded distorted. Also on startup the windows tune sounded distorted but this has only happened once.

Is the fault the cd rom? (I have not fitted the audio analogue cable.)

The soundcard seems ok as preloaded music sounds perfect.

Please advise

Cheers

Perhaps its the speakers, if it was the codec, then the sound file wouldnt play.

Convert an audio CD to mp3 or WAV files onto your hard disk and see what they sound like, it may give you a clue.

As for the Windows startup tune, I've heard that distorted on many (older) systems, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Why not try to change the Music CD. Some time if CD is somehow scratched it can also make the voice grabbled. For Windows startup voice. I will assume that there might be some heavy process loading in that particular boot.
