Distorted/crackling CD audio

ok. I have Creative Soundblaster Live, and a brand new Dell computer. The
sound works fine for almost anything including game sounds, wavs and
mp3's...etc. However, when I try to play an Audio CD from either of my 2
drives, or listen to mp3 or wma files that were personally "ripped" from one
of my own CDs on my computer, the sound is very distorted and crackly,
especially at higher volumes on the CD. I've played around with the Volume
settings on both my speakers and computer and nothing works. Device manager
also thinks everything is fine. Creative Diagnostics Agent also thinks
everything is fine. I've tried different speakers, so I know it's not the
speakers. Other sounds files that I did NOT create myself, work fine. What is
going on? And how can I fix this problem? I'd like to listen to CD's without
the distortion as well as be able to Rip my cd's into music files without the
distortion/crackling. Please reply to (e-mail address removed). Thanks.

First try updating your soundcard drivers. Get them from Creative's
website, not from Windows Update.
