Mup.sys

I recently bought a new motherboard and processor but now
when I try to boot up my computer freezes while loading
Mup.sys . My hard drive can boot up onto other computers
just not mine. Is there a way for me to shut off the
service Mup.sys ? and if there is will it affect my
computer to have it disabled?

Hi,

Have you tried an in-place repair installation? Follow these steps to do a
repair install which should preserve your data, settings, and programs:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive.
2. Restart your computer. If you have to, change the BIOS settings to start
from
the CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer again.
3. At the "Welcome to Setup" page, press ENTER.
4. Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the installation of Windows XP that you want
to
repair, and then press R to start the automatic repair process.
6. When Setup is completed, activate Windows XP.

Note that you will need your Product Key for this procedure, so have it
handy before you begin.

The mup.sys is misleading. It happens to be the last file that gets
loaded - what is going wrong is something in initialisation of the
system, after all files are there.

Likely possibility is video drivers. So:
Boot, hitting F8 as BIOS info goes to black and take Safe Mode. That
loads only basic hardware support and ought to get in. THere, first
suspect the video driver, so Start - Run and run MSConfig. On the
Boot.ini page select /BASEVIDEO
and exit and reboot - normal mode, but with basic video drivers. There
is a good chance that will work; but only in basic 800x600 resolution.
If so, go and look for new drivers for your video card at the maker's
site (and don't be misled by getting ones from Windows Update)
