Multiple Monitors

I updated a Win98SE machine with one Trident AGP video card and two S3 PCI
video cards with Windows XP Professional. The cards that formerly worked
fine under 98 will now not work in multiple monitor mode. I get a Code 10
cannot start error in the Device Manager window for all but the Trident AGP
card. If I pull the cards so that there is only one in the computer at a
time, they work fine. Therefore, this is telling me they work fine and XP
recognizes them and installs the correct drivers. Further reference to the
S3 website says that drivers are included on the Windows XP CD. Referring
to the Microsoft website states a very short list of compatible cards, of
which most cost more than what my computer is worth. It seems like I should
be able to get my old cards to work

I have further experimented with a brand new Compaq Presario S4000NX with
one of the S3 cards and had the same problem. The only difference is the
Compaq is running Windows XP Home. Here again, if I disable the onboard
video, these cards work fine under XP alone, but not together.

Any ideas?

Thanks.......Andrew Skoog

You cannot use most older cards as secondary displays
with XP. It has something to do with the way that XP
talks to the bios of those cards, and they don't work the
way they did with 98. XP is certainly not the "end all,
be all" OS that they claim it to be.
