Multiple domain/workgroups in Network Places?

Hi all,
We are a 500 user network with a handfull for VPN remote sites and private
subnets and we are inside a PIX Firewall.
Something weird happened today that we couldn't explain why.
When we view Network Places \ Entire Network \ Microsoft Network, we found a
lot of domains / workgroup that we don't recognize.
We tried double-clicking and we couldn't open them.
It was there for about a couple of hours and disappeared.
We don't have any wireless access points or anything.
The are most probably showing up through netbios because I don't see them if
I disable "netbios over tcp".
What could have cause that?
Thanks,
Al

Any possibility that people hooked up non-domain computers to your network?
This will do it - the workgroup name will show up for a while, and then
disappear after a while. The Netbios stuff you mention has to do with
browsing - without NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled, you can't browse network
places at all.
