Multiple Copies of Outlook Running

For some reason we have multiple coies of Outlook.exe showing up in our
processes list. As a result, an email sent, may go out multiple times. What
can cause Outlook.exe to be open multiple times? In the end, we want to stop
the multiple sending of email. I know that Outlook sent them, because I can
track them in my Exchange server.

Multiple copies of Outlook may run if it's not shutting down completely.
Causes for this may be AV software scanning incoming/outgoing mail, anti-spam
software, synch software for use with a handheld, FAX software, incompatible
COMs or Add Ins, among other things but these are the most common reasons.
Usually the problem can be tracked to software that integrates with Outlook.

AV software doesn't have to scan incoming/outgoing mail since the real time
scanner will catch whatever it's updated for.

However you are "opening" Outlook has it actually load another
instance. You did not mention how you open Outlook, especially when
there is already an instance of it already running. If you are using
a shortcut then make sure the /recycle parameter is specified in the
command line.

I believe the users are useing the quick launch icon. How do I change the
paramaters on that "shortcut"?

We have one Add In that may be suspect, since it allows us to save emails to
a storage database. We can look at that one. None of the others applied to
our environment, or have been eliminated as causes.

Yes you can add the /recycle paramater to the Outlook Quick Lanuch shortcut
button.

And then look for it in any other place that the user may be starting
Outlook from. Desktop shortcuts, Start - Programs, ... Find them all and be
sure that the /recycle paramater is added to the end of the target command
line.
