Multihomed XP PRo server internal network/external(public) network &
multiple ip's on the same machine for multiple domain hostin
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi we are runnning some servers based on Windows XP Pro SP2 machines.

we have 2 things we would like to solve.... And we would be very happy for
it/ would appricate it a lot!!
I hope that there is someone that could give qualified answers to these
questions.
We have seached throgh a lot of documents on the web without finding the
prober answers.
The first is that this machine runs about many things a fax server
servicces(Symantec Win Fax pro), but its seems like clients can not be access
the service through its public ip and therefore we installed an extra nic to
make it use an internal ip for this fax server service, so that it can be
reached by the clients computers on the network. But that did not work since
when you turn on both/ set both nics as active, only one of them
respons/works.

So what is should be done to make this work simultanusly?

Other isssue/question is how can youy set up/host a lot of different ip's on
the same machine (for web hosting/domain use)
example:

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. <--- (e-mail address removed)

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <[email protected]

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <[email protected]

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <[email protected]

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <[email protected]

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <[email protected]

IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <---- Many domains hosted (by virtual serverer hosting)

and so on.

Note: We do not use MS ISS server system. -

Thanx in advance for your answers!

For starters do a Google Advanced Groups Search in microsoft.public.windowsnt.dns for the string "Dual network cards in NT 4.0". This contains a seminal explanation of setting up a multi homed router. Sorry I cannot help you with your fax application. I have seen discussion in this group on multiple IP addresses on one NIC, so a Google Group search on microsoft.public.windowsxp.* should find it.
