Multi-User (can't go to specific record) problem

Hi

I work at a call centre, we use access in a multi user environment,
occassionally we get (cannot go to specific record) records locking all
users and we have to click on someone elses next button to free
everyone, does anyone know why this is, what causes it and possible
solutions?

Thanks
Vanessa

It is due to the fact that Access Uses Page locking - Not Record Locking
Easiest way to avoid is turning on Row Level Locking (Which in fact means
using 1 page (2K) per record - ie considerable DB size increase)
Another way is to write a Timer function that Saves or Discard changes to a
record if the user "goes of for lunch" in the middle of a record edit.

Thanks Pieter,
That's helpful, do you mean switching on Row Level Tracking, or is
there another option that I can't seem to find

Thanks again

Hi Pieter

Sounds like it's a pandora's box
Think I might set up refresh timers, do you think that is the safest
method?

Thanks
Vanessa
