MSVL OS not booting up

Brent

I have spent countless hours trying to figure out what it is I am doing
wrong, but I cannot seem to locate it. I have downloaded ISO images as well
as .EXE files (to extract to a folder) from the Microsoft web site
https://eopen.microsoft.com and then clicking on “Product Downloads†wich
directs me to all of the Downloadable software my company has the option to
get from Microsoft. I have downloaded XP Pro, Server 2003 ISO’s and EXE’s
and every time I chose to burn the ISO Image or the Extracted EXE files to
the CD and stick it in my server or computer, the darn thing will not boot
from CD. Now, I am no beginner on loading up a server or computer. So, I
have set the CD to be the first boot device in BIOS, I have correctly “burntâ€
the image to the CD (I see files when I open in Windows Explorer and not
xxx.ISO or xxx.EXE), I have tried it in several computers, I have chose “F12â€
on the Dell and IBM computers to boot from CD ROM/DVD ROM. It seems as any
of the OS’s I download from the MSVL site is not booting up when the (any)
computer starts. Has anyone else seen this or can someone direct me to the
necessary location to remedy my issue?
Thanks, Brent

What application are you using to burn CDs from your downloaded ISO?
As far that I know, Windows XP can not brun ISOs directly.

I have used ROXIO and SONIC-Record Now.

FYI - When using both of them, I choose to burn the "image files" to the
CD, not the Image itself (not just 1 file).

I have compared the Files on the CD that I burned, to my personal CD
collection, and the file structure is the same. That is what puzzles me.

You need to get the "image" to be burnt onto a CD. Roxio "Easy CD
Creator" should be able to that the "image" from the "image file" and
burn it as if this was a CD you are coping.

Burning the "image files" just let you store the files off your hard
drive. The resulting CD / DVD does not have the details for booting.

Don't know if it will help, but bootable CDs are notoriously finicky
about media and burn speed. I've seen similar issues, and corrected
them by cranking my burner down to a slower speed (4x or 8x generally
fixes the problem).

I took your advice, (which I should have thought of), and I burned the Image
to cd using the same exact image and software I had previous issues with, and
low and behold it worked. It is sometimes the simple things that slip your
mind when you are so frustrated with something.

Thanks again.

Hi, Brent:

I read your post and hope you can give some advice. I'm facing a similar
problem: I have this server (Dell PE2950 G2, Dual Core Duo processor, 4 GB
RAM, PERC 5/i RAID controller one single RAID 1 volume 146GB x 2 SAS HDDs)
wich I'm trying to setup Windows Server OS and it just stops on the main blue
setup "Windows Setup" screen, totally frozen, it does the same if I try set
thge OS up via Dell's Server Assitant or directly booting from OS CD/DVD. I
haven't tried burning the images at lower speed but I thinks it's a different
issue because I've tried almost every server OS available from MS: Windows
2003 STD (MS retail CD and Dell's shipped CD), Windows 2003 Enterprise R2
with SP2 32-bit (downloaded ISO and EXE from MS site), Windows 2003
Enterprise R2 with SP2 64-bit (downloaded ISO and EXE), Windows Server 2008
Std 32-bit (MSVLS shipped DVD), Windows Server 2008 Std. 64-Bit (MSVL shipped
DVD), Windows Server Datacenter 64-Bit (MSVLS shipped DVD). SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server 10 SP2 sets up fine. I've updated server BIOS, RAID
controller firmware, backplane firmware. I'm desperate.

Thank you,

GUX -

As stated in my previous post, I used the same image that I was having
issues with at first, I used a blank dvd from the same spindle, burn the DVD
at a slower speed (1X). Yea it takes Forever,,,,I mean forever..... but it
did end up working just as it was supposed to. I was able to load up my
server (once the DVD burned at 1x for what seemed "all day"). I know it gets
frustrating, and I too have seen where some Servers will not run the DVD or
CD that is sent from Microsoft, and then yet other servers will run that
cd/dvd just fine.

My suggestion: burn at 1x then load server. Hope this is the kind of
assurance you are looking for.

I finally make it few days ago, Brent.
I had to downgrade my server's BIOS to a version one year old, than I was
able to install 2003 with no surprises.
Thanks
