MSN Zone Backgammon & Euchre Disconnects

Y

Yucca

I no longer seen to be able to play either of these games
without being booted repeatedly.(they are the only games
that I play) The problem has intensified since I got
ADSL internet hook-up 2 weeks ago. I have removed MSN
Zone from my computer, reinstalled, cleared my browser,
etc, but nothing has been effective. I do not have a
firewall installed. I run Norton Antivirus, but have
disabled that periodically, with no change in the number
of "bootings". I am removed from my backgammon games,
but I continue to be signed in, and can just click on the
room again to re-enter. Any suggestions? My internet
provider is stumped. Thinks it must be something to do
with the Zone servers. No problems with internet access
on other unrelated sites either.

Thanks so much. I wish I still had Dial Up!!!

Hi Yucca,

Contact their tech support, explain that if it was the Zone
servers, then everyone in the lobby would have been dis-
connected, not just you. If you installed anything between
the time you had dialup to the time you installed ADSL let
the tech know about it. Have them setup a regular windows
broadband connection for you as well instead of using the
connection software they sent you. There's no need for it.

Have their tech ping you continuously until they detect the
drops that are causing you to time out from Zone's servers.

Those drops could be due to a defective ADSL modem,
bad phone line extension, bad phone wiring in your home,
to much distance from your home to the their Central Office,
too much noise on the line (have them check your capacity
and lower the download speed in your profile if you're at
over 70% capacity). Ensure all your phone lines have filters,
especially cordless phones, and have your Satellite or Alarm
systems filtered as well since they like to take priority on the
phone lines, which in turn decreases your tolerance level.

Don't worry if this sounds complicated, just relay the advice
to your ADSL technician and they will know what to do, or
transfer it to a supervisor if it's not within their own mandate.

If the phone company checks the lines, ask them to also look
for any water issues, or bridge taps that may affect your service.

Here's something else that you might find helpful Yucca...

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR CONNECTION:

1. Run this SPEED TEST: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

2. Download the TCP Optimizer Utility: http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe

3. Double click the program to start it:

4. Select the type of connection you're using: DSL, Dialup, DSL (PPPoE),
or Cable, then click "Optimal settings", click Apply changes, and click Exit.

5. Reboot and run the SPEED TEST again. Notice any improvement? If not,
then the Internet "highway" that you're using may be under heavy traffic or
construction. I have a webpage you can use to examine that possibility:
