No, you're not the only one.
Yesterday I installed MSN 6.1 as I wanted to use my webcam and microphone to
do a video conference with one of my contacts.
I haven't had any success in establishing a video/sound connection.
MSN 6.1 seems to be very unstable.
MSN keeps logging on and off.
Sometimes I get a message saying that I am behind a firewall.
Even when I just chatted MSN lost connection several times.
I also have the feeling that MSN 6.1 sometimes is interfering with my NIC
(Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection).
When MSN was running I lost LAN connection several times for just a second
or two.
Yes, I'm behind a personal firewall (ZoneAlarm Pro) and I have granted
access to MSN.
The PC is hooked to my LAN using an Edimax BR-6004Plus broadband router.
The Edimax router has build in NAT.
Anyone any suggestions of what might be wrong or how to get MSN running with
audio/video?
Thanks in advance.
I too have had nothing but frustrations getting audio and video
working. Generally, IM works consistantly fine. I can usually send
video OK, but getting audio to work is worse than a crap shoot. ONE
time I was able to get both working and thought I had solved it. That
was the LAST time. Now I can't get audio of any kind.
I too work behind both a Lynksys router and ZoneAlarm, but when I
removed everything including Norton antivirus, it made no difference.
I have read MANY posts of Jonathan Kay's and he has suggested some
interesting Windows setting, but so far none of them have helped me. I
have read all the help files available, but none address this problem.
One thing you need to try for sure is to open up the ports on your
router. On mine, I can set what they call the DMZ zone wide open. This
effectively stops the address translations. Gamers use this all the
time. I definitely HAVE to turn ZoneAlarm OFF. But then, it didn't
help me either, so I think the program is flawed.
Has anyone tried successfuly the "Windows Messenger" that comes with
Win XP? I don't like the video controls nearly as well though.
