msgina.dll error unable to boot

Running MS XP Professional, looks like service pack 1.

Tried a microsoft patch, now getting "the Logon User Interface DLL
msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the
DLL or restore the original DLL." error message.
tried F8, last known good configuration and all safe modes have the same
error.

system has no floppy, can boot from CD, but need help to make a bootable CD
rom from a 98se system. If I have to I'll reinstall or install another OS,
but I think there should be a way to get it to boot to command mode at least,
and then fix the problem.

So, if you know how to boot, and then how to fix msgina, please share.

Thanks
(other problems- Before this problem, I was unable to run windows update as
spyware or some virus/trojan keeps replacing the page in explorer, MS won't
do much (autoupdate) if I use another browser. I also have some Line-plus
thing affecting explorer.

can't supply MS with product identification number for online help, only
have product key, as can not boot.)

There should be a spare copy of msgina.dll in your
\Windows\System32\dllcache folder. This is one of those hidden, system
folders I believe. You'd need to copy that file to just the
\Windows\System32 folder.

What you want is a NTFS DOS boot disk that allows read and write access
like this one: http://www.datapol.de/dpe/freeware/

I suggest after you get your system working that you visit,
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/
and make yourself a bootable Windows CD for such emergencies in the
future.
