MSDE 2000 Release A: Windows Authentication Mode or Mixed Mode?

Hi all,
I have Windows XP Pro on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System and there is a "named"
instance of the early version of MSDE (MSSQL$CAMBRIGESOFT) already installed
in my Windows XP Pro.
I need to download Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)
Release A and install it in my Windows XP Pro as a "default" instance to be
used in Microsoft Access 2003 in my PC. I read MSDE 2000 Release A
Installation Examples, but I do not understand what "Windows Authentication
Mode", "Mixed Mode" and "AStrongSAPwd" are. Can someone explain them to me?
Should I use Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A's
"Windows Authentication Mode" or "Mixed Mode" for my "default" instance to be
used in Microsoft Access 2003? Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,

SHC

Hi David, Thanks for your response.
I removed the "named" instance of MSSQL$CAMBRIDGESOFT from my PC. I just
want to install the MSDE 2000 Release A as a "default" instance to be used in
Access 2003. I read all the documents you suggested and I still can not
install the MSDE 2003 Release A in my PC. I clicked on the setup.exe
(Microsoft SQL Server Setup) in my C:\MSDERelA folder. First, I saw the
message "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop
Engine", and then "A strong SA password is required for security reasons.
Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for more details.
Setup will now exist." I am completely lost in this matter of installing
MSDE 2000 Release A. Please help and tell me how I can use SAPWD switch to
supply the strong SA password during the setup.
Thanks again,
SHC

Hi there,
I can't answer your first question (still looking :) but here's what you
should do to solve the error message you received:
You should run setup from the command line (or modify the setup.ini file) as
follows:
setup sapwd="yourpassword" [....] (there are other arguments if you want to
use them)
That's what it meant by setting a strong password for the SA account (took
me a while to figure it out too)...
