When using the system configuration utility, under the
startup tab, there are items listed that I do not want to
start automatically. When I enable "normal" under the
general tab, all the items in "startup" are checked.

How do you remove items from the startup tab?

You can disable items by unchecking them but cannot
remove them from the Startup. Then click Apply/OK and
reboot. Recommend disabling everything except your anti-
virus program, if Norton, it will start with NAV.

Danny,

See Tip 148 in MVP Kelly's site: Clear Disabled Items from Msconfig Startup
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

NOTE: The disabled startup items are moved here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg]
