MSAS FAQ/bug0.1

When I added a site on IE Restricted site, MSAS
Notification alert shows a message saying a site has been
added to a Trusted sites and there's a button to block or
allow. Isn't it suppose to say a site has been added to
Internet Explorer Restricted site, it's very deceiving
cuz the notification is wrong.

the message on the Notification alert that i wrote here
is not exactly precise or the same since i didn't write
the message when the notification show up, but its close
hopefully you get what i am saying.

OK to see this bug: go to Internet option, click security
tab, select Restricted site, click sites button, once you
add a site wait a Microsoft Antispyware Notification
Alert will pop-up: the message is going to say something
close to what i write here a site has been added to a
trusted site, just read the pop-alert carefully and
you'll see it.

danny is this a bug?

Yes - that is a genuine bug. Reported by others already--but you've done a
great job of laying it out well.

What's the most major/critical bug that people have found
so far?

Does MSAS have any Major conflict/issue with Norton
Internet Security 2005?so far i didn't get any error
message when running MSAS and NIS, what I'm worried about
is issue internally which i can't see.

Please post your first name. Thanks

Fireup Internet Explorer
Tools | Internet Options | Security tab
select Restricted | click Sites button
enter www.microsoft.com | click Add button
(have to repeat above proceure for another round of test)
MSAS notification window is a BUG
An internet Explorer Trusted Site Requires Approval

Trusted Sites are web sites that you trust not to damage your computer. These
sites automatically allow Internet Explorer to use lower security and will be
allowed to run scripts, potentially dangerous ones, on your computer.

(contributed by )

In addition, I refuse to press the Allow/Block button but instead repeat to add
web site to same website to Restricted, and guess what
error message from IE
The site you specified already exists in another zone. Please remove the site
from that zone before adding it to the current zone

Some Norton installations seem to result in the tools, advanced tools,
system explorers not being visible in Microsoft Antispyware. We have a
quick fix for this issue, if you see it.

Otherwise, there are no known conflicts. FWIW, I am running the public beta
of Norton's new antispyware product--which is NIS2005++, on a virtual PC
along with Microsoft Antispyware, and haven't observed any problems--each
alerts to the others activity in various ways, but nothing unexpected--and
primarily at install time or first use of certain features.

As to critical bugs, it depends who you talk to:

There's an issue (I wouldn't call this a bug)--where certain spyware removal
results in a broken winsock LSP. There's a KB article specifically about
this issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350

This happens with other spyware removal tools, and there are a variety of
third party tools to fix it as well.

Then there's the issue with Peer-2-peer apps--Kazaa, for example. This has
undoubtedly led to the most significant data loss in the beta. If you scan
a machine with Kazaa on it the best practice I can recommend is to copy
everything in the "shared" folder (which many folks use to store all music,
not just that gained via Kazaa) to another location--perhaps My Music. I
won't try to give all the permutations of this one, but we see messages
weekly here involving loss of all files in the "shared" storage location.

What you think about the Norton Security 2005 Antispyware
edition? does it has advance option like MSAS? and did it
work under limited account?

I've got it running on a Virtual PC, under Windows 2000 SP4, along with
Microsoft Antispyware.

I can't really answer those questions--I'm not clear on the level of
"preventative" features it has. So far, I like it in actual operation. The
installation process was definitely a resource hog.

I haven't tested multiple account issues, or limited accounts.
