How do you know you missed autoupdate? The time of Randy's message is the
earliest notice I've seen of the definition availability. What time is your
autoupdate set to check?

Upon updating MSAS upgrades definitions from 5697 to 5699. If I check for
updates again. MSAS upgrades definitions from 5697 to 5699...ad infinitum...

Must be an error...

It is an erroneous error with MSAS.
My build does the same, it reapplies the same updates several times within the same
day - though, it seems to have now stopped?
Thus, Beta application behaviour, this phenomenon seems to occur at each update and
"loops"
for a time and may or may not stop delivering the same updates.

Try manually updating again tomorrow and report back if the behaviour persists.

I have the same problem.

Every time I "touch" a workstation I always manually update it, so I never
have a machine to test with older definitions, or to see if autoupdate is
working--except that I have a number that run 24x7 so I can usually see
autoupdate work on those.

My 5699 will not install properly. It d/l from 5697 to
5699 each time I have tried in the last two days. I am
using XP SP2 Home ED on an AMD 1.2 w/512 of RAM. I have
the latest Windows Updates.

How to determine whether you have the current definition library for Windows
AntiSpyware (Beta).

Are you running a firewall, the software (if installed) may be interfering
with the update executable file.
Try uninstalling, re- installing MS anti-spyware.
