Hello Damian,

ok. I've the version 6.02 (in german) ... if your 4.5.1 also have the
option 'Internetfilter' ... deactivate this option and it should be
working fine.

Maybe it's enough to deactivate the suboption 'ActiveX', but I'm not
sure.

Can you please give me a feeback if this works?
I'll contact McAfee ...
Thanks :)

Internet Filter was not running but system, mail and
download scan were.
I have removed the ms04-011 patch and then I could see my
outlook express welcome mail but it looks like all
previous mails have vanished.
I have even used an oe recovery tool and it could find
nothing. Please let me know if mcafee tell you anything.

Thanks
Damian.

Hm, i don't use OE for my emails. I only have problems with, History,
Userdata and the Temporary Internet Files.
Maybe it works when you deactivate 'mail'? I don't know ...

Ok.

I don't have contacted McAfee until now, because I don't have all
information I need. But i speek with an expert for Outlook Express. And
he told me this:

OE [and at the first place the email-function] has in generell great
Problems with McAfee lower than version 6.02.

So he said: DO NOT use McAfee VirusScan 4.5.1 when you use your
OutlookExpress for emails. They don't work together correctly!

And that have nothing to do with the latest windows-patches.

I don't have information about VirusScan 7 or 8. In the german
newsgroups are now problems announced. So I can say nothing about this
versions.
And that is the reason, why I don't have contacted McAfee until now. I
think, that this 2 versions have no problems with the newest MS-patches
and will work fine.
So I decided, not to contact McAfee with this problems because I know,
that they didn't support version 6 since a year or so. It would be
another situation, if version 7 or 8 also causes trouble. But I have no
information about that.

yes I've seen it.

Your data is probably still there.

In win2K explorer, go to \documents and settings\%your user ID%\local
settings\application data\identities

that is, if your user ID is "administrator" (god forbid!) go to

c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application
data\identities

You will probably see 2 identities there. Maybe more. look inside
them, and see if \microsoft\outlook express entries you have some
mailbox names you mrmember. If so, that's where your dat still lives.

Start Outlook Express, and create a new identity. You'll see a new
guid in the \identities path listed above. Simply copy and paste the
file you found before into the newly created \microsoft\outlook
express directory you just created. Restart OE, and you should see
all your stuff back again.

Also, please backup your mail folders. Weekly.
