MS Word 2002 Setup error 1706.

Naraht

I have a machine running Windows XP that after gives an MS Word 2002
Setup error box on starting Microsoft Word. It had worked before many
times. The error is 1706, cannot find required files. It does start
Microsoft Word after I click OK on the error box. How do I find what
has become damaged and how do I replace it. The machine is a Dell, now
out of warranty, so I do not have the source CDs.

Thank You

Have you tried opening Word by starting it using the /a switch?
From your start menu, select Run. Type in: winword.exe /a and
then click OK. Word will start without any add-ins which could
be causing problems.

Another thought I have had is whether you have too many temp
files. See http://www.mousetrax.com/maintain.html.

Since it does start, you can see if Word can repair itself by
going through Help and selecting Detect and Repair. Although, I
prefer to attempt to Detect and Repair by using the Control
Panel, Add-Remove Programs. Dell should have loaded all your
necessary files on your computer, unless you deleted them off for
space reasons.
