MS Webcheck Monitor

I have a recurring popup on my task bar that appears for a second and then
dissapears. I finnally got a chance to click on it before it dissapeared and
all it gave me on top of the window when I expanded it was the heading MS
Webcheck Monitor. Can someone let me know how I can possibly stop this from
appearing every couple of minutes?
Running XP Pro SP2

Thanks for the quick response Carey,

When I found out what the program was, I immediately started looking for
info on it and came up with the same links you posted, but none of them could
explain why this keeps popping up on my taskbar and how to get rid of it.

thanks - J

Jay, did you do a Search of all your files and folders for webcheck.dll to
make sure there is only one instance of it, located in your system32 folder
(per Carey's first link)?

I did do a seardh and just came up with the file in the system32 folder and a
service pack folder. That was it. Can it be something else? My computer is
running fine but it is just annoying. Let me know if you have any more
suggestions...thanks again!

I would fnd this annoying too, but my Googling only came up with the
solution of disabling the file, and other sources suggested this would be a
poor idea. I suppose you could rename the file and see if it affects your
ablility to use the Web. You can easily change it back if problems occur.
