MS Outlook XP - Unable to display the folder

Hi,

The scenario of this error is: I had setup up this new PC (WIN XP Pro SP2 / MS Office XP) for this new manager of the branch office I am attached to. The GM accompanied him over to brief him on his new job, whilst the GM was at the branch he decided to view his emails from the new manager's PC. He logged onto his email from the IE with this address http://mainserver/exchange/username, the GM was able to view his emails.

Then the new manager was about to check his emails and this error popped up, "Unable to display the folder. MS Outlook could not access the specified folder location. You do not have the permission to log on"

I did few troubleshooting efforts but I did not get the email up. The default email folders for the new manager could not be accessed when I clicked onto his MAILBOX.

I am a graduate tech, having just under 1 year on the job and this is the first error I have come across.

Thanks
Abie

If I understand correctly, the GM used Outlook Web Access through Internet
Explorer to check his email on the new manager's PC and did NOT use Outlook
XP. If this is so, nothing the GM did with the PC should have any bearing
on the problem. Is the new manager trying to use OWA, or is he attempting
to use Outlook XP? If he's trying to use Outlook XP, can he get in if he
uses OWA, like the GM did?

Yes the GM was using MS Outlook Web Access through IE to access his mails, whilst the new manager was going to use MS Outlook XP for his mails. I also did not mention in my first post that the GM had also used another user's PC to access the emails and when the user tried to log on to her mails (MS Outlook XP) the morning after, she encountered the same problem. Thats whats puzzling me. Another thing I found out too is that the default file types (pst) weren't showing, instead it showed a .NK2 format???

When Outlook is used with an Exchange Server, a .PST file is not created
unless the user does so manually; the default delivery location is the
user's Exchange Server Mailbox, so no .PST is required. The NK2 file is
Outlook's autocompletion database file. Try creating a new Outlook profile
for these two folks. Was the new manager able to connect to his mailbox
before the GM did his OWA login? While we're at it, can either the new
manager or the other user connect OK using OWA and IE?
