MS Outlook 2003 - can't reply to messages

I get the following error message when replying to an email:

Task 'incoming.verizon.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable
to send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: 550 5.7.1 Authentication Required'

Sending an email I create is working properly.

You need to do what the message says - set your account settings to
authenticate.

After furious head scratching, exclmstr asked:

Sorry, I should have stated that my settings appear to be correct, i.e.,
outgoing is set to "outgoing server requires authentication" and to "use same
settings as my incoming mail server".
If these weren't set properly, I wouldn't think that I could send any mail.

SEnding and receiving are two separate operations that require different
settings. What happens if you use the Test Account Settings? What does
your ISP say about authentication?

I understand that. I can receive email and I can send email; however, I
cannot reply or reply to all. The Test Account Settings come up completed for
each activity tested. I get the MS Office Outlook Test Message delivered to
my inbox.
