MS Morro, Serious suggestion

T

Tim Clark

If anyone here has some pull with the MS Morro team I would like to offer a
serious suggestion.

Design Morro so that it will allow you to "install" in On-Demand Scan mode
only if you already have another AntiVirus Product installed !!

My reasoning is this, We all know that you should generally not allow two
RealTime AV products to run at the same time. Few experienced users will
abandon their tried and true AV product to install the new kid on the block,
but if it could be installed so that it can be run on demand, the way
Defender can be, I would be willing to install it and run it as a secondary
checker while it is proving itself.

A simple message during install could be like this:

Morro has detected that you are currently running another AV product, you
should remove the other product before installing Morro, OR Morro can install
itself in OnDemand Scan mode only, If you would like to do this choose
Proceed, other wise click Cancel, remove the other AV product, and run the
Morro installer again.

Thoughts ?

I like the idea, but I do wonder if Microsoft's reasoning might end up
being:

We already publish our most up to date definitions and scanner at
safety.live.com

This scanner is explicitly not real-time--it is "on demand" only.

So this is already available, although with a somewhat dated (in terms of
branding) UI.

If you set a Vista disk in the CD tray upside down,
you can hear SATANIC VOICES!
But that isn't the worst of it,
if you set it the right way IT INSTALLS VISTA!
