MS is preparing for RC1 release

As it looks by posts on different web sites, Microsoft has 2 links ready
for when RC1 is released.

This is what I see...
Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista RC 1.
The Customer Preview Program is now closed.

We have reached our program capacity and no new orders are being accepted.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

Well... considering the Beta 2 links where up probably no more than 12 hours
before (I checked the links about 4-5 hours before release, but Andre or Zack
posted them several hours before that...) it can't be that long.

Of course, all they tell you is "soon"

I think it is worth noting that everytime Microsoft releases a big product,
they change their website around a lot. Just recently, (and apparently still
changing) the Windows Vista "get ready" and "community" pages have been
changed a bit. The plain (boring) blue top section has been replaced with a
very "AERO-ish" green top.

As soon as RC1 is released, expect the main page to change as well (just
like when Beta 2 was released, the background picture changed from a man
standing on a mountain to a blonde sitting in a field of flowers).

Changing their website is part of getting you excited.

I am getting the same message. From what I have heard the 7th is when RC1
should be ready for download.

This time they're releasing a big gobbling turkey that has RC1 on its back.
Yawn.

At least it will clarify to people they'll slap a windows logo on anything,
box it and cheerlead the suckers.

Yes it can.

It takes a couple of days to get the infrastructure running and Monday is a
holiday. Thursday, 9/7, would fit several past Techbeta releases and sounds
about right to me.

Colin,
Disregarding the fact that you;unlike most of us; are privy to inside
info;
past performance being any indication; one would assume that rc1 is ready to
go live.
Beta 2 download links went "live" almost exactly 12 hrs after first being
posted to the web; Infrastructure;scminfrastructure; unless MSFT totally
abandoned AKAMI thn the infrastructure is already in place. And one of the
last things; is to get the links ready. Past indication has shown that they
don't put the cart before the horse;i.e. set-up download links and have them
just hang out until they are ready.

Just a side note. It looks like there may be some scam sites that may try to get your personal info as it appears that you are going to order RC1.

I don't know if it is a scam site as of yet, but on the safe side, beware.

Jason,
Hi,
I followed that microsoft.catalysis.com and it appears to be a MSFT partner-looks on the up and up.

But RC1 is not ready to go live. Build 5520 failed standards and it looks
like a later build (according to links posted elsewhere in this ng, 5536) is
now likely to be RC1. In any case, the RC1 preview drop to TechBeta is
delayed and that drop needs to be available to TB at least a couple of weeks
for quick testing (and the resulting fixes) before RC1 release. And then,
of course, the candidate build has to pass mathematically provable testing
(not the anecdotal stuff we do here) before going live.

Colin,
O.K.
Maybe so;
Just; as a casual observer; sort of strange that the links are in place;so
early.
And maybe MSFT has learned; from the Beta 2 download.
So again, who really knows;except MSFT themselves.
Just a comment on the links being in place.
Jeff
BTW; wouldn't suprise me in the least;that 5520 failed "standards"

I agree that live links are very interesting, but there may have been some
testing going on. MS is not about to tell us the why's.

There have been inscrutible things throughout this beta as there were in
Whistler and I assume earlier programs. The classic example is that all the
beta 1 builds after about 5118 showed Beta 2 in the text in the lower right
of the desktop even though it was nine months before 5384 was announced as
the Beta 2 Milestone build. It turns out that a dev had checked the screen
into the codebase way too early. I'm sure it was an easy task to get out of
the way but it took a couple of months to get everybody clued into the fact
that their latest build was not Beta 2.

Which is going to make their time table for RTM even more ridiculously
stupid Colin. It's one thing to give up on so many features, but another
thing to ship Windows so broken.

Catalysis is a company with several locations in Seattle that often develops MSFT programs to distribute their software and their promotions and their freebies from meetings. It used to have a great bee hive flash video on its site but I have been unable to find it using Web archives since it was taken down.

Colin;
And then again; who's to say that it HAS to go to TB for testing?
This is not a brand new "animal" here; Colin.

It may well be delayed; we'll just have to wait and see;
although;again;putting up "live" links; is usually not done;this far in
advance
