MS AntiSpyware runs; never finds anything

I'm just curious. I've used the MS spyware software, but
in all the time it's been running in real time or
scanning "after the fact" daily, it has NEVER detected one
wrong thing that I can remember. However, I can turn
around and run Spybot or AdAware, and it finds "stuff"
(never notified ahead of time). Admittedly, the ONLY
things I get now are cookies so maybe I'm just
running "clean."

I did a "trick" using a "recipe" from www.grc.com
(somewhere on there I sent e-mail for help) that shows one
how to "unbind" the TCP/IP except for Microsoft Computers
Near Me (Win2000). This closes the ports where stuff can
get through. I kept the main MS network setting as it does
no harm and may or may not be needed. This can be done for
Win2000 (and maybe the other versions by now) and it does
NOT affect networking at all. So you can do it at home and
in an office setting where there are networks installed.
The BIG question is: since MS knows we get trojans and
viri via the ports for the Network Settings, why not tell
us how to unbind and shore up those ports? I had to
stumble upon this awesome thing at grc.com because I
worked with the ZA group long ago and it's their original
website (couple of guys kept that going but not for ZA
anymore). Why not put it in the install instructions since
it is well-known? Seems the "nicer" thing to do I think.

Anyway, why doesn't this beta Spyware finder ever find
anything on my computer over the past x months? Is it
because I just don't get viruses and trojans? But what
about the malware Spybot and AdAware find and kill daily
IF I use the Internet? Something's not quite right or
maybe it's me?

Since I only see answers in my e-mail (not the newsgroup)
if anyone answers, send to my e-mail box, please. Thanks!
