MS AntiSpyware and slow links, file opens

Pat

Running Windows XP Pro, SP1, all patches current except of
course SP2. IE 6, SP1.

Since installing MS Anti-Spyware a couple of months ago,
I've noticed that when I either follow a link to a website
in an email or when I open a file using Windows Explorer
(both from the server or locally on my machine), the
associated application (IE, Word, Excel, etc.) opens
really SLOOWWWWLLLLLY, typically 20 to 30 seconds before
it pops up. Once the app is running, the document loads
normally.

This does not occur if I open the application first, then
open the link or document. Application opens immediately.

I've experimented by shutting down MS Anti-Spyware, then
opeining a document or link. Speed is then normal.

Starting it up again, it returns to slow behavior.

I'm assuming MS Anti-Spyware is scanning the item I'm
opening before it runs the application?

In any case, it's annoying. Any ideas for workarounds or
resolutions?

Also, I notice that Anti-Spyware is not a product listed
in the MS KB. Any idea when it will be added?

Thanks,
Pat

I notice this behavioe, too, when I use IE for the 1st time after
boot-up. I run WinXP Pro w/SP2, Norton AV and PFW.
