MS Anti-Spyware & Sunbelt Counterspy

I had MS Anti-Spyware installed on Windows XP SP2 and am
very satisfied with the application. Today, I came across
another anti-spyware application from Sunbelt, called
Counterspy. I downloaded an evaluation/trial copy with
worked flawlessly and had a very polished appearance.

However, Counterspy looks and functions almost identically
to MS Anti-Spyware. So similar in fact, I decided to remove
it from my PC. I uninstalled Counterspy at which point my
OS began to freeze/hang. I was forced to use the Task
Manager to shutdown the PC and it reported someting to the
effect of "Giant Anti-spyware Data Service" failing to
respond. I was able to unencrypt my personal data files
using safe mode and do a clean install.

My fault for not reading the release notes or doing more
research I guess.

I have the identical problem resulting from the identical
sequence of events. But I don't follow how you fixed
it. Could you kindly explain a bit more fully? Thanks
in advance.

You need to run task manager, either via start, run, taskmgr, <enter> or via
ctrl-alt-delete.

In the processes tab, end task the gcasserv process--and any others starting
with gc, or Giant.

I'd then recommend uninstalling the beta, deleting the contents of the
installation folder (unless you need to preserve settings or quarantine
items)--and then reinstalling.

This issue should not persist-- but a reinstall may be needed to fix it.
