MS Anti-Spyware for WIN ME too, please!!!

C

ch1

1. Does Microsoft intend to eventually adapt one
version of its new anti-spyware to Windows Me? It is
crucial that it does, so that we are ALL also protected
until we eventually upgrade to LongHorn or whatever will
follow Win XP (in some distant future).
2. What would be involved in adapting this new
antispyware to Win Me? And perhaps to Win '98 on which it
is based? There are still so many of us out there... We do
need equal protection from our mother/father who gave us
birth, i.e. MS! Microsoft, don't abandon your kids! ch1.

Windows ME = obsolete

You will have to rely on third party applications if you insist on staying
in the dark ages.

Hey, you guys don't have to be so snobbish. Not all of us
have the hundred bucks or whatever to upgrade. Plus I
would have to dump half of my peripherals, or try to find
drivers, or other headaches. I ran the XP diagnostic and
got so many red entries I just said the hell with it. If
Microsoft saw fit to load Me on a zillion Dell computers
and then abandon it, shame on them. This is a legitimate
request, and Microsoft should be able to offer the same
features to those of us who have Me (which we got NOT THAT
LONG AGO!). But, I guess they would rather we didn't
support them, since they are sending us to the nice third
parties who have consideration for all of us.

Let's see - 5 years:

1. How many people are wearing the same clothes they did 5 years ago?
2. How many are driving the same car?
3. Television?
4. VCR?
5. Glasses?
6. Games?

Come on - it's not snobbery, it's the way it is. Things change. How many
of those red X's were simply drivers you needed to download? Plenty of
people installed with peripherals unplugged and uninstalled, then replugged
and used a Windows 2000 driver and accepted the fact that it was not a
signed driver and it worked anyway.

If you want antiques supported, then you have to go the extra mile. MS is
suppoed to be the only company to provide support all the way back to the
beginning? I have an external USB hard disk and the drivers are no longer
available from BusLink - they just don't even provide them. I used the
Windows 2000 driver that I backed up when i first bought it and it worked
fine.. I also bought a new external case from NewEgg that holds the same
hard drive and provides USB 2.0 support and it was only $18. I just passed
the USB 1.1 drive to a relative who is still using 2000.

The truth of the matter is, In order to really protect Windows 98 1st, 2nd,
or 3rd Edition(ME), MS would have to rewrite so much of the core of the OS,
it would no longer be 98.

Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. You decide what you are willing to live
with. There are many 3rd party apps out there of which many are free that
will work for you just fine - for now. Just think, you could be still using
a Commodore 64 - some people are!

A recent quote from Bill Gates may give you Win 9x/ME users
some hope:

"But, for the basic idea of spyware as something we've got to nip now
before it gets worse than it is today, we've made the decision that all
of our Windows licensees should have that capability. And I'm very
excited that we've got this technology, and it really addresses what is a
burning need for our users."

So, it depends on what he means by "all of our Windows licensees."
