MP3 player no longer recognized

My computers no longer recognize my son's MP3 player, and give som
sort of error message. The MP3 player still works, but we canno
change the music files on it. It no longer shows up as a drive. Al
of my USB thumb drives still work, though

Did a recent XP Home update affect MP3 players?

Information or suggestions? TIA

how did it normally recognise the player,

as an additional hard drive from which you dragged and dropped files or
through its own software........if the later you could try reloading the
software.

as your thumb drives are working it cant be the age old XP failure to
sometimes not recognise mass storage devices.

Do you have any exclamation marks showing in device manager. If so, try
deleting and reloading the driver.

I will try reinstalling the driver.

The player shows up just like a thumb drive.

Thanks
