Moving to Access 2007 from Access 2003

I have read through some of the questions in regard to converting to Access
2007 from Access 2003, but haven't been able to find exactly what I need, so
I will just ask it.

I have an Access Database that was created in Access 2000 and now works with
Access 2003. I open the database with a .bat file that copied the .mde file
to my desktop and then opens MS Access. Not 100% sure how to define the
front end and back features, but there is a front end and backend and
additional databases that are opened from within the database. So we have a
database that contains active data and we periodically create an archive
database to reduce the file size of the active db. So we are always adding
archives.

Now we are moving to Access 2007 and I can open the database with 2007 but
get an error that talks about importing favorites into the converted database
and such.

I have been asked whether or not I have saved the database in 2007 yet, but
my understanding is once I do that it will no longer work with 2003. Do I
need to save all of the associated db's as 2007 or can I get it to work
without saving them all? I recall when we went to 2003, I did something
similar.

Any advice would be appreciated or if you need additional information to
help, please let me know. Thanks

You don't have to convert the file format to the new accdb format if you
don't want to. You can open an MDB in 2007. But you will not have all the
features of 2007 available to you. I haven't converted a 2003 database of
any complexity to 2007 format so I don't know of any gotchas. Others might
have more to say about that.

But conversely, you cannot open an ACCDB in 2003 or any other version before
2007.

Bill, thanks for the information. Have you happen to run across the error
that I am getting while opening the db? Here is the exact text:

"File has imported 'Favorites' and other groups into the converted database.
If you change the imported groups in Access 2007, you will not see those
changes ify ou open the database in an older version of Access. Also, if you
change the imported groups by using an older version of Access, you will not
see those changes if you open the database in Access 2007."

Once I "OK" past this screen, things seem to work as normal. But I would
like to avoid having all users having to click through this message every
time they open the system.
