Moving Public Folder in Explorer

Mike

I've relocated the c:\users\ folders to the D: drive rather than clog up the
system drive with all the user data, media files, etc.

Whenever I open Explorer, the Public folder still points at the
c:\users\public location and not at the D: location. How do I tell explorer
to look in the d:\users\public and not c:\users\public? there seems no
immediate way to repoint this shortcut.

The ENTIRE C:\Users folder?
You will have quite a bit of registry editing to do--**at least** 73
individual keys that point to C:\Users, that you could *maybe* edit to
D:\Users. Maybe. Unknown how this might screw things up in the future.
A much easier way is to simply change the locations of the folders that
contain your data.
For example:
Right click (in Explorer) your C:\Users\Public\Public Documents folder icon,
choose Properties, the the Location Tab. Click the Move button and browse to
where you want it to be. Repeat for any other data folders for any user
account you want to change the data folders for. Changes will become
permanent after you reboot.

Not quite the entire folder...

But when I open explorer, the default shortcut in the folders window only
points to the c:\users\public folder and the ability to move this or change
location isn't available. It's THAT entry that I want to change.

OK, you lost me. I don't know to what you are referring. A shortcut? A
folder? From what explorer view?
If it *is* simply a shortcut (neither a folder nor a junction) within a
folder, delete it and make a new one. Or I completely misunderstand what you
are attempting to do.

Are you talking about the Favorite Links icons? They are the shortcuts
contained within the the Links user folder. And you can't move the entire
user folder off from C: as it contains part of the registry.

Hey Mike, ever figure anything out on this? I am trying to do the exact same
thing by moving the Public Folder to drive D: from drive C:. D: is a big
Seagate and C: is a fast little Raptor.

I have it all set up on D: and have it shared but Vista always wants to
point me back to the C: drive version.

Windows XP allowed you to move your My Documents folder by right clicking on
it. Vista does not allow this apparently.
