Moving outlook .pst

Guest

I am following this document
office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011124801033.aspx
which gives instructions on how to move a .pst folder.

In step 5 it says click 'Show Profiles' in Mail. I do not have a show
profiles button or menu option in mail.

Any ideas?

Can't answer. You posted neither your Outlook version nor operating system.

Sorry, the knowledge base link defines the OS & Outlook ver, but never mind.

I am using Windows XP Professional SP2 with Outlook 2000 (9.0.0.2711).
Outlook is the only Office 2000 app I have installed as I use Office 2007
(Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote).

Grateful for your help, thanks Russ.

No wonder. If you're using Internet Mail Only mode, it does not use
profiles. Are you? If so, you must open Outlook and examine the properties
of your PST file so that you can find it on your hard drive.
I would not expect Outlook 2000 to function very well with Office 2007. Why
are you using it?

That's the Show Profiles button in Control Panel's Mail applet.

Russ,

Yes I am using Internet onlu mode.
I know where the .pst is, that is not the problem. What I'm am not clear on
is how to tell Outlook to use a different .pst by DEFAULT. That's the bit
towards the end of the Knowledge Base document that says "Move the .pst file
to another location"

Outlook 2000 works just fine with 2007. I am using it because I do not have
Outlook 2007.

Thanks
Napo

To use another PST file and set it to be the default for your current
installation of Outlook, you will first need to know the location and name
of the PST file you'd like to use as your new default. Then use the
following directions:
- File menu > Open > Personal Folders file > migrate to the new PST file
location to open it
- Right-click on the root of the new set of folders in the folder pane (View
Folder List)
- Choose Properties
- Check the "Deliver POP mail" box
- Quit & restart Outlook
- Now you can Close the PST file that you were previously using (R-click on
that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close <foldername>
Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to
transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the
other before you close the old one.

If you don't want to use a different PST, but want to move the existing PST
to another location and use it there, it's fairly simple. With Outlook
closed, move the PST. When you start Outlook, it will complain that it
can't find your folders and allow you to browse to where they are. Select
the old PST in its new location, click OK, and you're back in operation.
