Moving on up to the 90's, BJC 2000!

Well I'm finally moving on up to the 90's, and I have a used BJC 2000!

How I don't know, but I got it to stop making wierd noises. Now I
want to get it to print.

1) This is a model that has a ink tank holder, BC-21E. I presume that
can be clogged with dried ink, even if the ink tanks I'm using are
good. Is that so?

How would you clean the "cartridge?", that is, the ink tank holder?

2) I was given some Panasonic brand color and black cartridges,
KX-FA152 and 153. Can they be used in the BJC-2000? Physically,
they fit fine, exactly afaict.

3) Any suggestions on how to keep the IS Scan Plus from crashing, or
where to get a pdf manual? The manual for the printer makes
reference to the scanner manual, but doesn't give a URL.

It also makes reference to a "carrier sheet" that is to be scanned, I
guess to calibrate the scanner or something. Where could I get one of
these?

Details: I also got an IS-22 Color Image Scanner Cartridge. So I
downloaded from the Canon USA website ISScan Plus v3.5 and installed
it, and it looks ok, but 3a) I haven't yet found a pdf manual for it??
and 3b) When I click on Device Information on the main menu, it either
freezes or crashes win98SE (which otherwise runs pretty well, and I
have little else running when this happens.) It seems to me that even
if the printer, the scanner, the cable, and the parallel port are bad,
the software still shouldn't freeze or crash windows, right? (And they
don't seem to be bad, since in printer mode, it does everything except
output ink.) The other 3 buttons don't do well either when I click on
them.

4) I also have a BJC-3000, and the manual for that (500+ pages!) says
that one can use an IS-32 scanner cartridge. But it should still work
with an IS-22, right?

If you are inclined to email me
for some reason, remove NOPSAM :)

In my opinion, the BJC 2000 ie a step backwards. The tiny ink tanks
hold so little and the one I had continually cleaned itself. It was too
cost inefficient for me. I threw it in the trash.

Trash? Too bad. You could have used the large BC-20 (black)
cartridges, which are quite easy to refill. I am still using my
BJC-2000.

Well, it's not a step backwards for me, because I have had no color
printer until now.

With your experience in this, perhaps you know how to tell if it is
the tank that needs replacing** or the cartridge that needs cleaning.
I don't want to open up the envelope of a new tank if it the cartridge
that is the problem, and I don't want to spend time on the cartridge
if it is the tank.

**Or rejuvenating? Can a good tank that was working and then sat for
a long time and dried out be rejuvenated somehow? By soaking in the
right solvent? Isopropyl alcohol? What?

Perhaps you can help me?

The questions above, plus have you used it with the IS-22 or any
scanner cartridge? Have you used IS Scan Plus, v3.5 or any other
version? Have you had problems with crashing.

I've dl'd the software twice, and uninstalled the first copy and
reinstalled. It brings up the control panel screen, but when I click
on any of the four buttons, (copy, scan, etc.) it still freezes or
restarts the computer.

I knew that at the time Geo, but I have this anxiety over actually
buying anything. I keep a bunch of old printers working with refill ink
and free carts that I pick up from friends and the trash. I'm never
short of something to print with. The print quality on the 2000 was OK,
but I was using up my ink too fast. A larger cartridge would still use
the same ink except I'd have to fill it less. Maybe the printer was
defective. I would have gladly given it to you If I only knew. In this
case, pitching the printer was addition by subtraction.

I received this printer from a friend who moved to a new DELL
bundle. He was using it on Win98, and I am using it on Win3.1.

I have no experience with the scanning part, but because you
mentioned it I looked in the CD that came with this printer and I see
that there are some scanning drivers in it.

There might be a conflict between the driver and some of you
hardware (or software?), and that is causing it to freeze.

I have had bad luck trying to get the cartridges and tank holders to
work once they quit printing. I have tried with warm water and Windex,
but it seems that once they stop printing it's over. I have had better
luck getting free ones from garage sales or recycling depots. Some
work, and some don't, but since they were free it didn't matter much.

Supposedly, that's what they offered me too, that I dl'd.

I had done well with BC01 and BC02, mostly refilling. I can't say how
long they were empty or that any dried out when they weren't empty.
That would be worse I guess.

I hadn't thought of reccycling depots. I suppose there are some
around here (Baltimore). How did you find yours?

Thanks.

I happened to have volunteered/worked at one of them here in
Calgary. I hope that you find a few working cartridges.

Happy New Year.
