Moving My Documents folder to different drive

I'm using Windows XP on a pc that has two user accounts. The other person has
migrated My Documents to a second drive (ie not the C drive) and I would like
to move My Documents to the same drive. Is this possible? I don't want to try
it until I know for sure in case all our folders merge.

Windows XP works on the basis of user accounts, as you undoubtedly know,
so your My Documents folder is separate from any other user's My
Document's folder. You can move your My Documents folder to any internal
hard disk partition, whether the same or different than anybody else's.
It will not be merged with anyone else's My Documents folder. However, a
user with Administrator permissions can view everyone's My Documents
folders.

Do it right:

Just make sure your folder on the other drive has a different name than the
other user's "My Documents" location. If they have selected the root of
the drive as their location, it would be best if they move it to a folder
instead (before you move yours).

If you right-click on My Documents and select "Properties", then "Move...",
you can enter a Drive:\Folder in the box there - if the folder does not
exist, it will offer to create it. You should then get the option to move
your files to the new location.

Hi

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it isn't working. I am following the
instructions but the thing won't move. When I double check the location (by
right clicking on My Documents onthe Start Menu) it is in its original
location. Do I need to physically create a foldr called My Documents before I
move it?

There will always be a My Documents folder in the original location, as
a placeholder. Your My Documents folder is where you put it.
