Moving from single label domain name to FQDN

Stephan Barr

Have installed the NT4 BDC, everything replicates and am ready to promote to
PDC and have some questions.

Some configuration info:
domainName = GSI
registered domainNames myCompany.com; myCompany.org
All DCs are local at the moment but would like child domains over WAN links.
Like state1.myCompany.com; state1.myCompany.com (or org) ?

I'll be renaming the domain when the NT4 PDC is upgraded and have heard much
about the split horizon and want to do this right the first time. The
webSite myCompany.com is externally hosted and I want to host after all this
single label stuff is fixed. myCompany.org becomes the internal domain
name with a UPN of myCompany.com as the UPN...? Thanks in advance.

You could name the internal domain mycompany.local, then you won't have to
deal with all the problems of split horizon DNS. You can still ad the UPN
name of mycompany.com in AD Domains and Trusts for everyone to logon by.

Very good; will do. Just seeing the .local cleared a lot of DNS issues up
for me. Thanks

Next thing; There will be one NT4 non member server on the LAN. It's
running SQL Server & Dynamics. It has local users obviously. Any issues
with creating a nonMixed mode at NT4PDC upgrade to w2K time...?

I'm not sure what you are asking, can you clarify?

Hi Stephen. I remember your posts...glad to see you got your domain name
fixed!

No problems with that. Mixed mode just says there are still NT4 BDCs in the
domain. If there won't be any....change it to Native.
