Moving between W2K domains using ADMT

M

move

Hi All,

I have 2 W2K domains; different trees, same forest. I have
been able to move users, groups and computer accounts from
the source domain to the target domain. On my W2K Pro
workstations, domain users log in, but all profiles are
local profiles. The problem I have is after I migrate a
workstation to the target domain, when the user logs in,
its a new profile and I have to copy the files such as My
documents and Desktop to the new profile from the old
profile. Is that the way ADMT is supposed to work or am I
missing something?

Thanks.

The version of the ADMT which comes with 2003 (which will work w/ 2000) has
built in profile migration capabilities.

ADMT v2 do have ability to migrate the user local profile.
If you use ADMT to migrate the user, group, computer account, then you can
use Security translation wizard w/ local profile w/ add mode to migrate the
user profile.
If you not use ADMT to migrate the user, group, coputer account, you still
can use Security translation wizard, but you have to use "sid-mapping file"
option.

You can see the details from readme.txt or read ch 12 of "designing and
deploying directory and security servies" in the "Microsoft Windows Server
2003 Deployment Kit"
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/reskit/deploykit.mspx

You can download the ADMT v2 from:
