Hi,

I have tried to install movie maker 2,which it did as
version 5.1 build 2600.spsp2.030422-1633: Service Pack 1
movie maker version 2.0.3312.0 . Every time I open it I
end up with the error message "Window Movie Maker has
encountered a problem and needs to close. The data in the
error report says---

AppName: moviemkerror.exe AppVer: 2.0.3312.0
ModName: qedit.dll
ModVer: 6.5.1.900 Offset: 00018ff3

I have tried reinstalling it, unistalling it as per
PapaJohns website, installing it with copying and
pasting from a movie maker2 that worked on another
computer, all to no avail, it still keeps
closing.Help??????

I read some more on Papa JOhns site and he wrote that
there are harware issues with the NVIDIA video cards
which I have, could this be the problem?Any way around
this?

Thanks for responding

......but, I read your site as below, and I downloaded
directx version 9,(already had win media player 9) did
not help. I searched for qedit entries and found a number
of them listed but now I don't know what to do.Found
article 2/6/03 where he renamed his dll files but your
website says to be careful to rename unless your willing
to accept the consequences and I don't know very much
about computers. I saved all the entries as a document
and was going to send them as an attachment but this
message board does not seem to accept them.
One other site (microsoft Knowledge base article-825229)
said to go to registered packages and copy (60bff50d-fb2c-
4498-a577-c9548c390bb9) to the folder: window movie maker
and then click yes to replace files. I did that as well
but it did not ask me to replace the files, it just
copied to the file, so I think I did something wrong here
as well---I don't want to screw things up and have my
computer totally crash. Please help.

Diane,

How do your Movie Maker files compare to the list of files on my Setup Z >
Software page? ... in file names, dates, sizes (what you see in sizes might
vary a bit from those I list)

Hi
The only dll listings I could find under the softwear
issue had to do with the Wmm2ae-Wmm2FXB, and they all
pretty much match. There was nothing mentioned about the
Qedit.dll which is missing in my setup area. Is this
still likely the problem. One other site (microsoft
Knowledge base article-825229)
said to go to registered packages and copy (60bff50d-fb2c-
4498-a577-c9548c390bb9) to the folder: window movie maker
and then click yes to replace files. I did that as well
but it did not ask me to REPLACE the files,(everyone
elses said that they were asked), it just
copied to the file, so I think I did something wrong here
as well---I don't want to screw things up and have my
computer totally crash. I also read later that there is
issues with Intervideo. I have Intervideo WinProducer 3
on my computer. Could there be some kind of conflict
happening here?

Diane,

Qedit.dll isn't in the Movie Maker folder. It's in the c:\Windows\System32
folder.

Yes about a possible conflict with Intervideo WinProducer 3.... look at the
Problem Solving > Acceleration and Codecs page of my site and check your
hard drive for the known problematic .ax files.

Make sure you have a restore point established so you can easily go
backwards in time... to help you feel more confident about not screwing
anything up.
