MOUSE WITH A WILL OF IT"S OWN

AND NOW IT WOULD SEEM THE KEYBOARDS FALLEN RIGHT IN WITH IT> Don't tell me I'm
shouting, this is the 'will of it's own' I haven't changed a thing, but it
would seem the keyboard and the mouse have, since the caps are changing things.

Basically what the original problem was, and where I think the source may have
begun, I was reading something, had my finger on the shift key for an extended
time. needs to be there more than 8 seconds, suddenly a popup popped up asking
if I wanted to keep some sort of keys enabled. options were ok, cancel, and
settings. 1st time I said cancel. I had no desire for the machine to do my
thinking for me. went to settings the 2nd time to see what had changed. It took
me to accessibility options. And nothing was selected.

I think things have fixed themselves. But I'd like to know what I can do to get
it to fix itself. This is the 2nd time I've seen this activity. Can't recall
what fixed it last time. Posting a ng post isn't something I'd consider a valid
fix for a problem.

XP help throws up their hands with 'reboot the machine' then come back here to
the troubleshooter.

I'm guessing yeah that's how I fix the majority of the problems. There has to
be a simpler faster way than pampering this thing every time it goes haywire.

Ok symptoms. here in the NG the mouse wheel switched from scrolling up and down
the page, to switching windows like using the tab key.
selecting a message to read, highlighted everything from the top of the page to
where you drop the mouse.
the caps at the beginning of this message occurred with the caps lock key
turned off.

Things now seem to be working the '>' key looks like where things switched.

How do I fix this problem next time without going thru the worthless
troubleshooter or posting to a NG ?

I did that didn't fix the problem. It fixed itself while I was typing the
problem here. When I hit the 'period' it came out '>' Then things reverted to
normal operation.
That's where the troubleshooters and pressing the shift key more than 8 seconds
came up.
I did both of them before posting the problem here in the NG. and then it just
reverted to normal operation while typing after the period in the 1st sentence.

Still doesn't explain how to fix it so it doesn't happen again.
If it was more than 5 secs look in accessability in Control Panel.

filter keys is not selected, but there's some default settings installed like
the right shift key under the advanced section. use filter keys isn't selected,
but there are settings that are selected 'use shortcut, ignore quick keystrokes
and slow down the repeat rate' then settings under that setting for slow down.
I left the beep and show filter keys on screen toggle selected in case this
happens again so I can troubleshoot further, but it seems to me if filter keys
is not selected on, all the settings under that should be worthless even the
holding down the right shift key over 8 seconds. I can't see why other than
daydreaming I would hold it that long. But I've pretty much disabled all the
settings on that 1st page.

and under mouse keys that's off also, and I seldom use the numlock, actually
had it turned off in the bios boot settings.

everything on the main pages off the accessibility section are turned off. But
the stuff in the settings sections are set with default settings.

I assume all the shortcut keys will work despite them being not selected as use
them on the main page of each option.

Probably just something I'll need to learn.

Don't really want to disable stuff that you have to hunt for under 2-3 layers
of settings. the help system isn't that good.
I already told you how to fix. Look again.

It's togglekeys.

Mmm, interesting.

If I hold right-shift for 8 seconds the "Filterkeys" dialog pops up.
*Whatever* option I pick turns the sticky keys on - eg if I move the
mouse afterwards it selects text between where it was and where I
click. It can be switched off by hitting two keys at the same time.
Stick key status is not shown on the screen although the box is
checked.

Cheers,

WELL IT"S SCREWED UP AGAIN AND I still haven't found a way to turn it off other
than how you see it happening here in this sentence.
It's now off and turned itself off on the capital 'I' after the word AND.

togglekeys was just sounds.

I need to know what happened in the sentence above that automatically broke me
out of the situation.
It's togglekeys.

I've been using the right shift key to get to the accessibility section to
check out your replies. And all it did this time was enable the screwup.

mouse wheel tabbing from one window to the next or highlighting everything.

Still haven't found what's causing it.
