Mouse movement

Is there any reason - and any solution - why the vertical movement of my mouse
comes into action much later than the horizontal movement when I start up XP
Home on a Compaq? The mouse-pad works fine, it's just the cable-mouse that
takes time.

I have done this before in an effort to speed up my
machine. Go into control panel>performances and
settings>advanced and reconfig to original settings. It
will slow you down for a while, but you can delete each
item until it hits you again.
