mouse movement issue

Running XP Home, 512MB 550MHz Labtec optical mouse

Sometimes the range of movement by my mouse will change. For example under
normal circumstances, a 4-inch move of the mouse will make the cursor travel
across the entire screen.

Then when I come back later, the same 4-inch movement of the mouse only
moves the cursor about two inches on the screen. So what is normally a slight
movement to cover any place on the screen becomes several significant mouse
movements just to get the cursor back to the top of the screen/page.

Movement is smooth, cursor appears normal, it is just the range of movement
(or effort to get the cursor to move any distance) that has changed.

So far, the only solution has been to reboot the system and the mouse then
acts correctly.

Any suggestions?

Hi
obtain a new driver for the mouse from the manufactures web site or use the
one that come with the mouse then go to device manager and update the
driver for your mouse.

Why mouse driver?? This could be a video driver problem or even some virus
program running in the background?
