Mouse freezes intermittently

Don

I have an issue that has been addressed in this forum with various solutions
suggested, none of which have solved my problem. Any help would be
appreciated.

Problem:

The issue is intermittent, brief "freezes" of the mouse pointer, typically
from a second to as long as 5 to 8 seconds. The computer does not respond to
clicks or double clicks during these freezes. This occurs in Firefox, Word,
Paint Shop XI or any other program.

The System:

New Shuttle barebones with AMD X2 5200, 2G 6400 Corsair, GForce 7600GT
256MB, 500G SATA Drive and Vista Business. All drivers are completely up to
date. Ready Boost is not being used. Paging file is on a separate drive and
set to proper amounts.

In monitoring of the processor load I found nothing unusual. Only error I
show in the event viewer is -- IRQARB: ACPI BIOS does not contain an IRQ for
the device in PCI slot 15, function 0. Please contact your system vendor for
technical assistance. Memory diagnostics showed nothing wrong.Rebooting has
no effect.

From various post on the net I found that this may be caused by Trend Micro
Internet Security 2007. Uninstalled it and still had the smae issue. Also
read that it might have something to do with a domain. Uninstalled the
network and went to a stand alone "workgroup".

Again, any help will be greatly appreciated. Never had an issue like this
with XP. By the way, this is a clean install.

Thanks.

Check in Task Manager. Odds are your computer is at 100% and you have to
wait. I had this frequently when I was running a 3500+. Problems solved
with a 5200+.

Cordless mouse?

Frank:

The mouse IS cordless, a MS Wireless Laser 6000 Desktop. Never had an issue
with cordless on XP. Is there an issue with cordless input devices with
Vista? Thanks for the reply.

Are you using Aero Mouse pointers? The latest Nvidia drivers have an
issue with Aero Mouse pointers and will cause the intermittent mouse
cursor issue. Change to another mouse pointer (I'm using Windows
animated and that took care of the problem)

I'll just use this until the Nvidia driver is updated to switch back
to the Aero Mouse pointer.

Thanks Dave. I was using Aero pointers until your post.

I think I can live without aero pointers, in return for sanity. Thanks
again.

Hi, I had this with a dell and I was told to change the ports the sata
drives were on i.e. instead of ports 2 & 3 I changed them to 3 & 5 and since
then no freezes. Be sure to change this in the bios as well.

Regards

Keith

I have used a corded mouse and had zero problems. What is the solution for
a MS Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. I've concluded that has to be the issue.
Thanks.

I don't have a solution, but my Microsoft cordless mouse on my tablet
(WinXP) has impaired function when anything else is really busy, especially
during startup. This doesn't happen during scans by AVG but it will happen
if OE is loading a really big folder or sometimes if I am downloading from a
fast server. I can't find a model number on the mouse that my old eyes can
read. I just live with it.

I have the same problem except when my mouse freezes the system is locked up
and I must turn off the computer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THIS WORKS! I can't take credit, I found it awhile back and had to a
re-Install yesterday. I kept this info, because i knew it would come in
handy again.

Click start > run > msconfig
click the "startup" tab
uncheck everything except your 'antivirus'
restart your computer.

Right Click "Computer", select your main drive, right click, select
properties then tools. Defrag the main drive. Even if it tells you it
doesn't need it, defrag it anyways.

Run a Registry cleaner, you can get a good one from here: 'CCleaner -
Download' (http://www.ccleaner.com/download)

clean the junk files and repair the registry. Restart again and give
it another whirl.

And if it`s the battery in a wireless mouse ......?
